Extendable Dining Table
During the eighteenth century it was custom to have many small dining tables around the dining room. As the
years went by the popular gate leg table was pushed aside for the improved version that no longer were small or had
gates or sometimes called stretchers between the legs.
As it was called a drop leaf table, this had four legs and two of the swung out on a jointed hinge so as the
flaps could be supported. Towards the middle of the century most had straight legs. This was somewhat cumbersome
and around the seventeen eighties, what was called a pedestal dining table was invented. It could have extra slaps
to make the table larger.
There are extendable dining tables that are very ornate, big and beautiful. If there is room in the living room,
many people will go for the large extendable dining table to accommodate a large family gathering. Some come with
two or three extensions. The modern day extendable dining table can be very easy to work or somewhat complex. There
is an extendable dining table that has the leaves operated by an extension mechanism. All the homeowner has to do
is push a button and the leaves come up and lay flat.
Some extendable dining tables are made of beech, maple, oak or cherry wood. Or they can have glass tabletops.
The extra leaves can be glass as well, either being stored underneath the stationary leaves or can be free of the
table. The contemporary style extendable dining table is becoming very popular these days, with sleek lines and
brushed metals, it can fit into almost any décor.
Whether buying a small extendable dining table or a large one, there are different sizes, shapes and colors,
prices. Some of these tables can range from two hundreds dollars up to thousands. The size and the extensions play
a large part on how many chairs come with it. Some will come with only two chairs, but the norm is four or more.
Due to the extension you will need more than just two chairs to seat people.
The Amish craftsmen make extendable dining table with the North American hardwoods, as they grow slower and they
last longer. All of their tables are solid wood and can be stained to fit your style. They will even build an
extendable dining table that can be ten feet long or twenty.
Remember when you buy that extendable dining table; it works just like a normal one. The only difference is it
has extra leaves to add to the table. It extends to seat all of the extra people that are coming for Thanksgiving.
And an extendable dining table will cost more than a regular one, because of the extra leaves.
Prices will vary. It all depends on what kind of wood an extendable dining table is made of, if there are any
intricate designs, the size and how many chairs come with it. When you find the one you want and can afford it will
grace your dining room for many years.
